What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are basically custom-made thin layers of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. The procedure begins with a dental preparation of the teeth followed by taking  impresions/molds of the patient’s mouth are needed to be manufactured in a dental laborator.  there is no prefabricated porcelain veneers,  but this is not the only type of veneers there is other more with their own advantages and disadvantages.

What types of Porcelain Veneers exist?

There are several types of dental veneers are composite veneers, porcelain veneers or veneers that are specific to some dental laboratories such as Lumineers and DaVinci.

What is the difference between each type of veneers?

Composite Veneers: They are more economical, they are made ​​with a material, composite “which is the same with the fillings are made only with highly aesthetic properties.

Disadvantages: discoloration, Short duration (about 6 years).
Advantages: No need to wait for the lab, chairside treatment is done, if a facet fracture occurs can be repaired in a single and fast appointment.

Porcelain Veneers (E-Max):

Advantages: High aesthetic resists greater masticatory pressure, does not suffer discoloration, life expectancy with proper care about 12 years.
Disadvantages: The elaboration of porcelain is a slow process that requires waiting for the dental laboratory.

Lumineers: 

Are a commercial brand of Porcelain veneers from a Dental Lab from Texas. They are made from Cerinate.  This is a type of pressed leucite reinforced feldspathic porcelain.

Advantages: High aesthetics, minimal teeth preparation, does not suffer of  discoloration, expectancy of 12 years or more with proper oral care.
Disadvantages difficult handling, ease of fracture at the time of cementing in the patient, long waiting times (laboratory in Texas, USA).

DaVinci Veneers:

Its other commercial brand for Porcelain Veneers. Are made from reinforced pressable porcelain.

Advantages: High aesthetics, minimal teeth preparation, does not suffer of discoloration, expectancy of 12 years or more with proper oral care.
Disadvantages difficult handling, ease of fracture at the time of cementing in the patient, long waiting times (laboratory in California, USA).
